Attendance at school is not just beneficial it is essential. Attendance is directly linked to improved exam performance which should in turn lead to further learning opportunities and better job prospects. As well as this, going to school helps to develop:

  • Friendships
  • Social Skills
  • Team Values
  • Life Skills
  • Cultural awareness
  • Career pathways

If your child misses school, it has a huge impact on their progress and we want to work with families to ensure that attendance is the very best it can be. There may be times when your child is genuinely unwell and not fit to attend school. If that is the case, please contact us before 9am on 01204 333343 option 1, option 1 for sixth form or option 2 for Y7 - Y11.  Alternatively please email or to let us know in accordance with our attendance policy.

If you fail to notify us as to why your child was absent, then we will record that period of absence as being unauthorised.

How to prevent your child from missing school:

  • Having a routine and sticking to it.
  • Making sure your child understands the importance of good attendance and punctuality.
  • Making sure they understand the possible implications for themselves and you as a parent/carer if they do not attend.
  • Taking an interest in their education- ask about schoolwork and encourage them to get involved in extra-curricular activities.
  • Discussing any problems, they may have at school and letting us know.
  • Not letting them take time off for minor ailments or holidays in term time.

Please note that:

Parents/carers are legally responsible for making sure that their children attend. If your child does not come to school you could be fined or prosecuted by the Local Authority and each parent/carer could be fined up to £1,000 for each child who misses school.
